* Banner Art sculpture *
In 2006, the Port of San Diego commissioned artist John Banks to create a new sculpture for the Imperial Beach Art Walk at Beach Boulevard and Seacoast Drive, and Syska Hennessy Group was engaged to illuminate the sculpture to increase visibility and prominence in the evening. Titled, “Banner Art”, this 20-ft. abstract steel sculpture consists of three equally spaced vertical steel poles (8-inch diameter) that rise to a height of over 20 ft. The upper part of each element is bent into different shaped wavy forms as if blowing in the wind, like banners. Viewed from any angle but one, the artwork looks entirely abstract; but when viewed from one particular spot (called the “sweet spot”) near the corner of Seacoast Avenue & Imperial Beach Boulevard (about 150 feet from the artwork) the piece clearly spells the word “ART” in bold capital letters. |

* sunset seen from USD * I took this picture from Copley Library and I think that the colors in the sky created by the sun are perfect for a piece of art. In fact, many artists use sunsets as inspiration for their art work. |
* " I Love You" *
I wrote this and sent it to my boyfriend while I was spending a day at the beach. After I took the picture, I realized that something so simple as writing "I love you" on sand can also be considered art. Love can be shown or demonstrated in so many ways. Love is the feeling that evokes so many feelings to people no matter in what language it written or spoken. Love is the main theme for most songs, poems and movies. In this case, I wrote it in Spanish since it is our first language but it is understood by everyone no matter what language it is shown in.

* Imperial Beach Pier architecture* The original pier was constructed in 1909. Its original purpose was to generate electricity for the town using wave action which activated massive machinery on the end of the pier. It worked inadequately for its intended purpose and the "Edwards Wave Motor," as it was named, was disassembled and removed. For many years the pier attracted large crowds as did the nearby boardwalk and bathhouse. The wooden pier finally deteriorated and it washed to sea in a severe 1948 storm. The pier was destroyed by storms earlier in the early 80's, and was completely rebuilt by December 1988. |

* Dolphin statue * The statue is known as "Ocean Riders", created by world-renowned environmental artist Wyland depicts three dolphins leaping from a wave. Mounted atop a concrete pedestal finished in a coquina texture and color, this 7' 2" tall, 1500 pound, cast bronze sculpture mirthfully greets visitors to Imperial Beach's Dunes Park.
Dedicated in May 1996, Ocean Riders was the first art placement on tidelands resulting from the Port's then-recent recommitment to a Public Art Program. |

* Painting on electricity box*
Throughout Imperial Beach, there are painting on all of the electricity boxes. It creates an emphasis on the beach town. The colors throughout the streets evokes a sense of marine wilderness and beach fun. |

* Design on VW bus" This VW bus is parked next to my house and I think it is shows how a classic vehicle can also become a canvas for the owner. |

* Tattoo*
The "sleeve" on my friend's arm shows a Chinese dragon surrounded by flowers. The tattoo creates an effect that makes it seem that the dragon is moving throughout her arm. I think tattoos can become a controversy since they are not seen as art nevertheless as my friend's tattoo shows, tattoos represent an individual's personality and personal meaning. |
